Measure the project area
Enter the length and width of the floor or wall area. For L-shaped rooms, uneven rooms, closets, or alcoves, divide the space into smaller rectangles, calculate each section separately, and add the totals together.

Add the tile length and width in inches. Common tile sizes include 12×12, 6×6, 12×24, and 24×24 inches. The calculator converts tile size into square footage automatically.
Add a waste allowance
Most standard tile installations need about 10% extra tile for cuts, breakage, and future repairs. Use 15% to 20% for diagonal layouts, herringbone patterns, large-format tiles, outdoor patios, or rooms with many corners and obstacles.
Round up to full boxes

Measure the length and width of the area, multiply them to get the total square footage, then divide that number by the area covered by one tile. This tile calculator does the math automatically and adds your selected waste allowance.
📐 How many tiles do I need for a 10x10 room?
A 10x10 room is 100 square feet. If you use 12x12 inch tiles, each tile covers 1 square foot, so you need about 100 tiles before waste. With a 10% waste allowance, you should plan for about 110 tiles.
📦 How much extra tile should I buy for waste?
Buy about 10% extra tile for most straight layouts. Increase the waste allowance to 15% or 20% for diagonal patterns, herringbone layouts, large-format tiles, outdoor areas, or rooms with many cuts.
